Bach "Cantatas Volume 1"
Cantatas for the \Feast of St. John the Baptist
Cantatas for the First Sunday after Trinity.
The Monteverdi Choir, The English Baroque Soloists,
John Eliot Gardiner
The first issue in the long awaited series of live
recordings, made on the artists' Bach Cantata Pilgrimage of 2000.
The cantatas were performed on the feast days for which they were
written. Each 2CD set is beautifully packaged in a case-bound
book with photographs and detailed programme notes and full
sung texts and translations.
The works in Volume 1 are perhaps not the most well known of Bach's
cantatas but they show incredible variety. Almost all have grandiose
first movements which show off the Monteverdi choir at their best.

Bach "Cantatas Volume 8"
Cantatas for the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity.
Cantatas for the Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity
The Monteverdi Choir, The English Baroque Soloists, John Eliot
Gardiner.
Volume 8 is the second release in the new series. The Bach
Cantata pilgrimage continues the principle of coupling according
to feast day. Works on this volume include Warum betrubst
du dich, a poignant and original work from Bach's first
Leipzig cycle and Jauchzet gott
one of the most popular cantatas.
The Cantatas on the second CD of this set includes some of Bach's
greatest music. The Monteverdi Choir excel themselves again
in the choral first movements.

Bach "Cantatas Volume 24"
English Baroque Soloists, Monteverdi Choir, John Eliot Gardiner
The third issue from the live recordings of
Gardiner's Bach Cantata Pilgrimage
Cantatas for the Third Sunday after Easter
(Jubilate)
Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen BWV 12; Ihr werdet weinen und
heulen BWV 103; Wir müssen durch viel Trübsal in das Reich Gottes
eingehen BWV 146
Live recordings from the Schlosskirche in Altenburg (featuring
the famous Trost organ that Bach himself was invited to 'test'
when it was newly built). The cantatas for Jubilate cover a
wide gamut of styles and moods and tease new meanings out of
the Gospel texts. From the starkness and searing pathos of BWV
12 to the astonishing superimposition of opposing moods in BWV
103.
Cantatas for the Fourth Sunday after Easter (Cantate)
Wo gehest du hin? BWV 166; Es ist euch gut, dass ich hingehe
BWV 108; Sei Lob und Ehr dem höchsten Gut BWV 117 (Cantata 'per
ogni tempo')
Recorded: St Mary's Collegiate Church, Warwick:
The three cantatas for Cantate are concerned with the sorrow
surrounding Jesus' farewell to his followers, the trials that
await them in his absence and their joyful thoughts of seeing
him again.
